Garage Door Repair Richmond

Richmond · BC
Off the track.Broken spring.Fixed today.

When a garage door jams, sags, or screeches on a rainy Richmond morning, we come to you — Steveston, Broadmoor, Seafair, or Terra Nova — and get it rolling smoothly and locking securely again. Off-track doors, snapped cables, worn rollers, and stubborn seals, sorted on-site.

► 01 / The service

Diagnose, repair, re-secure.

A garage door is the biggest moving object in most homes — and in Richmond it takes a beating from wet delta winters and damp coastal air. When it comes off its track, drops a spring, or grinds to a halt, we diagnose the real cause on-site and fix it in a single visit, then check that the door still locks up tight.

We're a licensed mobile locksmith first, which means we look at your garage door the way a security tech does: not just "does it open," but "does it close, seal, and lock the way it should." A door that won't seat properly is a door that leaves your garage — and everything in it — exposed. We repair the mechanical faults that stop a door working and make sure the latch, lock bar, and closing action are all sound before we pack up.

What we fix

  • Off-track doors — rollers jumped out of the horizontal or vertical track, realigned and re-seated
  • Broken or noisy rollers — worn nylon/steel rollers swapped for smooth, quiet ones
  • Frayed or snapped lift cables — replaced in pairs and re-tensioned correctly
  • Bent or damaged panels — minor sections straightened; badly crushed panels assessed for replacement
  • Grinding, squealing, and rattling — worn hinges, dry rollers, and loose hardware traced and cured
  • Weather sealing — cracked bottom seals and side/top weatherstrip replaced to keep coastal rain out
  • Loose or misaligned tracks, brackets, and hinges re-fastened to spec
  • Lock bar, T-handle, and slide-lock faults so the door actually secures when it's down

Safety note on springs: torsion and extension springs are under extreme tension and store enough energy to cause serious injury. We do not recommend DIY spring work under any circumstances — this is a pro-only repair with the right winding bars and clamps. If your door won't lift, feels impossibly heavy, or you heard a loud bang from the garage, leave it down and call us.

How it works

01

Call or book online

Tell us the symptom — won't open, off the track, loud bang, won't seal — plus roughly how old the door is and whether it's single or double. We give you a firm price range on the call.

02

On-site diagnosis

A mobile tech inspects the tracks, springs, cables, rollers, and balance. We show you exactly what's worn or broken and what it costs before we touch a tool — no upsell, no scare tactics.

03

Repair & safety test

We complete the repair, re-balance the door, and cycle it several times to confirm it opens, closes, seals, and locks correctly. You watch it work before we leave.

Built for wet Richmond winters

Richmond sits at sea level on the Fraser delta, ringed by dykes and wrapped in damp air off the river and the Strait — this is some of the wettest, foggiest ground in Metro Vancouver. That constant damp is hard on garage doors: bottom seals crack and let water pool inside, steel rollers and hinges rust and start to squeal, and cables corrode where they meet the drum. If your door has started grinding through the winter or you're seeing water track under it, that's the delta doing its work. We replace seals with weather-rated rubber, swap corroded rollers for sealed nylon, and lubricate the moving parts with a grease that doesn't wash out in the wet — so the door still runs quietly next November.

We cover all of Richmond for garage work: the older detached garages in Seafair and Broadmoor, the lane-access garages in Steveston and City Centre, the big double doors on the newer Terra Nova and Ironwood streets, and the strata garages along No. 3 Road and Westminster Highway. Wherever the door is, we bring the parts and the tools to it — no towing a door anywhere, no waiting days for a specialist to route out from downtown.

When a garage door is a security problem, not just a nuisance

A garage door that won't close flush, won't lock, or sits crooked on its track isn't only annoying — it's the single largest unsecured opening on the house. Many Richmond garages connect straight into the home, so a door that won't seal is an open invitation. Because we're a full locksmith, we don't just make the door move again; we make sure the slide lock, lock bar, or deadbolt engages and that the interior connecting door is properly secured too. If you want to go further, we can add a dedicated garage door lock or upgrade the entry between the garage and the house on the same visit.

FAQ

Why is my garage door off the track?
Usually a roller has jumped out because of a bent track, a snapped cable that let one side drop, a loose bracket, or an impact from a bumper. Don't force it open or closed — running an off-track door can bend panels and stress the opener. Leave it where it is and call us; we re-seat the rollers, straighten or replace the track, and find the underlying cause so it doesn't happen again.
Can you replace a broken garage door spring?
Yes, and this is exactly the job you should hire out. Torsion and extension springs hold enormous tension and can cause serious injury if they let go while you're working on them. We use proper winding bars and clamps, replace springs in matched pairs so the balance stays even, and re-tension to your door's weight. If you heard a loud bang and the door now feels impossibly heavy, that's almost always a broken spring.
My garage door is really loud — can that be fixed?
Almost always. Grinding, squealing, and rattling usually trace back to dry or worn rollers, loose hinges and hardware, or a spring that needs attention. On the coast, rusted steel rollers are a common culprit. We swap worn rollers for quiet sealed ones, tighten and align the hardware, and lubricate everything with a weather-resistant grease — most doors go from alarming to nearly silent in one visit.
Do you fix bent or damaged panels?
Minor bends and dented sections can often be straightened and reinforced on-site. Badly crushed panels — after a bumper strike, say — usually need a matching replacement section, which we source by measuring and identifying your door model. We'll tell you honestly on inspection whether a repair will hold or whether a section swap is the smarter spend.
Water gets into my garage under the door — can you stop it?
Yes. That's almost always a cracked, hardened, or missing bottom seal, sometimes combined with worn side and top weatherstrip or an uneven floor. We replace the bottom seal with weather-rated rubber and fit fresh side/top strip so the door seals against Richmond rain. If the concrete is out of level we'll point that out, since a threshold seal may be the better fix there.
Will my garage door still lock properly after the repair?
That's the part we care about most as a locksmith. Once the door moves and seals correctly, we confirm the slide lock, lock bar, or T-handle engages fully when the door is down. If the lock is worn or the door never really secured, we can repair or upgrade it — and secure the interior door from the garage into the house — on the same visit.
